Senior People Advisor, Corby

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Jacksons Bakery for a Senior People Advisor to join the People Team based at our factory in Corby

Reporting to the Head of People, you will develop and deliver the site people and engagement plan to support the people strategy and site objectives.  Working closing with our Head of Operations and the factory management team, you will partner to provide leaders with advice and support on all people matters. As a fairly new site, the culture is still being defined so you will have a pivotal role in getting underneath the current culture and shaping it to embed the Jacksons Bakery values.  Your day will vary from managing recruitment, attracting talent to the business, and driving the engagement plan to managing employee relations matters including disciplinaries, grievances and absence.  Being part of the wider Jacksons People Team, you’ll always have support and work closely with your colleagues in the Hull factories.

What’s Involved?

  • Deliver a people and engagement plan that increases employee satisfaction and reduces turnover.
  • Build the employer brand in Corby so Jacksons Corby becomes known in the local area as a great place to work.
  • Manage and coordinate the recruitment process, creating job descriptions, job adverts and supporting in interviews where appropriate whilst maintaining effective cost control.
  • Drive the performance framework cycle supporting managers and colleagues to have meaningful conversations about personal development and growth, to drive performance and continually develop skills. 
  • Support in employee relations matters, note-take and advise in disciplinary/grievance and attendance meetings, providing guidance and ensuring a consistent approach across the business. Manage complex ER case load across the business and in some cases hand hold managers to build their capability.  
  • Manage the employee journey from recruitment through to onboarding and exit.
  • Use people metrics to drive change and introduce and embed initiatives and produce reports that will influence business decisions.
  • Manage the absence management process, generating reports, identifying/investigating trends and producing statistics in partnership with Occupational Health to effectively manage both short and long term absence. Lead on ill health case reviews and supporting colleagues on long term sick.
  • Support the People aspects of any customer or site audit.
  • Work with your colleagues in Hull to support change management projects, including organizational changes and restructures.
  • Manage the work experience programme and maintain positive relationships with local schools in the area.
  • Manage agency relationships for both permanent recruitment and also ensuring the effective provision of temporary staff.  Conduct annual agency audits.

About you

You’ll have a good grounding in HR with experience working at an operational level getting involved in the nitty gritty of people issues. You may have been in a stand alone HR or People role, or worked in a small team, but you are used to getting involved in all people related activity.  You’ll be able to demonstrate where you have led and delivered people projects and be a big advocate of employee engagement.  You’ll be resilient and adaptable, with the confidence and willingness to try out new things.  Having used HR information, you can inform sound decision making. You will be a great communicator with the ability to form strong proactive working relationships with all colleagues. You will be able to influence without authority, demonstrate integrity and act as a moral compass for business needs where appropriate

A little bit about us and our history

Jacksons is part of William Jackson Food Group, a sixth-generation family business founded by William Jackson when he opened his first shop in Hull in September 1851. Today we have a portfolio of four food businesses in distinct, yet complimentary market areas, employing over 2,000 people.

Our Corby site opened in 2018 – one of the largest investments our Group has ever made – and this will allow us to realise our ambition of being the best at what we do.

We have occupied the current site in Hull since 1907 and we now have 3 bread plants in our main bakery. We developed a second bakery, also at our site in Hull, which specialises in premium quality roll production.

We specialise in the supply of bread and other carriers to the sandwich manufacturers, foodservice, and export channels, and in 2012 we launched our consumer facing brand “Jackson’s of Yorkshire”.
