Overview

We’re looking for a forward-thinking and hands-on Assistant Financial Controller to take ownership of financial control, reporting, and crucially - transformation across our finance function.

This isn’t just a “run the numbers” role. You’ll lead and develop a team, rethink how work is structured, redesign processes, and drive improvements across systems, reporting and controls.

We’re open to both permanent and FTC candidates, making this a great opportunity whether you’re looking to step into a long-term leadership role or deliver meaningful impact over a defined period.

About Belazu

This is a lovely opportunity to join a business with an impressive set of accreditations, from B Corp status to silver standard Investors in People, and recognised in 2025 as a Sunday Times Best Place to Work. We are a diverse team with a shared set of professional goals and social values that drive a hugely satisfying working experience.

Belazu has been a pioneer of supplying high-quality Mediterranean and Middle Eastern ingredients for over 30 years. We’re ambitious, fast-paced, and constantly evolving—making this an exciting time to join.

What the day job looks like:

As Assistant Financial Controller, you will:

  • Lead and develop a transactional finance team of 6+, building capability and accountability.
  • Redesign team structure and workload allocation to improve efficiency and performance.
  • Identify, design and implement process improvements and transformation initiatives across finance.
  • Own the month-end close process, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
  • Deliver high-quality financial reporting (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, variance analysis).
  • Manage group reporting and statutory submissions.
  • Strengthen financial controls using a risk-based approach.
  • Lead internal and external audits and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Support ERP and system improvements, driving better ways of working.
  • Provide insight and financial modelling to support business decision-making.
  • Monitor working capital and support cash flow performance.
  • Build and track KPIs and dashboards to drive visibility and performance.

This role will suit you if:

  • You’re a qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA or similar).
  • You’ve previously operated at Assistant FC level or equivalent.
  • You have experience in a fast-paced FMCG environment.
  • You’ve led or significantly contributed to finance transformation or process improvement projects.
  • You’re confident managing and developing teams, including structuring workloads.
  • You combine strong technical skills with commercial awareness and stakeholder influence.
  • You’re proactive, solutions-focused, and enjoy making things better.

This role may not be for you if:

  • You prefer a purely reporting role without change or transformation.
  • You’re not comfortable managing people or driving team performance.
  • You’re not interested in improving systems, processes, or ways of working.
  • You struggle to balance detail with pace in a demanding environment.

 What’s in it for you?

  • 25 days annual plus 8 public holidays per annum, increasing with service
  • Auto-Enrolment Pension
  • Life assurance
  • Discretionary Bonus Scheme
  • Long service awards
  • Free parking on site
  • Up to 40% discount on Company products
  • Access to employee benefits portal

Terms

  • 40 hrs/week, Mon–Fri (flexible start times available)
  • Hybrid working (office + WFH)
  • Probationary period: 3 months
  • Annual salary review (our ‘movers and shakers’ are always rewarded)
  • Discretionary KPI-related bonus
  • Open to permanent or fixed-term contract (FTC)
