About the role

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our Supply Chain team as Warehouse and Distribution Manager (Ambient). The role is responsible for all operations within our Distribution Centre (Newport, Brough) and is part of the Supply Chain leadership team.

Job Summary

Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Distribution Centre . Deliver business and customer requirements through your teams and ensure all relevant KPI’s are achieved. Adopting a continuous improvement approach, develop and deliver long term plans to improve the overall warehouse and Distribution operations in terms of safety, quality, people and cost.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Health and Safety, Food Safety and Product Quality

  • Ensure that all applicable HSE and legislation requirements are adhered to
  • Ensure that all health and safety, hygiene, and security standards are maintained to the highest level in your areas of responsibility
  • Work with your team to develop a H&S and Quality culture in so much as safety and quality are never compromised as a minimum
  • Instil an enhanced understanding of customer expectations throughout the team to continually improve the quality mindset.

People Responsibility

  • Ensure that professional and productive recruitment processes are undertaken to ensure legal compliance, a positive candidate experience and that the right calibre of colleague joins the team.
  • Ensure the training and development requirements of your direct reports are captured and delivered against time defined plan. Ensure mandatory and essential work instruction training schedules are in place and delivered on time via your direct reports.
  • Ensure effective performance management processes are applied consistently across the teams to encourage regular two-way feedback and performance improvement. Identify personal development and succession planning opportunities and timely interventions to support
  • Leadership of disciplinary, grievance and appeal procedures
  • Through your team ensure employee engagement plans are developed and delivered to maximise the benefits of a truly engaged team
  • Regularly review the structure and accountabilities to maximise team efficiencies and succession opportunities within and between the warehouse and production teams
  • Develop and maintain an environment of respect and accountability to promote a cooperative and harmonious working culture

Management

  • Play a key role within the Supply Chain Leadership Team, deputising for the Head of Supply Chain in their absence. Deliver priorities in accordance with the business strategy
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to maximise warehouse efficiency end-to-end, identifying opportunities to improve processes, inter-department effectiveness, product flow and quality output
  • Input to the warehouse and cold store annual budget and deliver accordingly
  • Operate a continuous improvement philosophy to identify short and long term opportunities. Instill this through the warehouse and cold store teams
  • Lead on business improvement plans in relation to warehousing and distribution and optimisation projects.

Process

  • Ensure that all relevant KPIs are delivered, including stock, waste, quality, service levels and costs. Ensure timely reporting and data analysis to identify trends and improvement opportunities
  • Implement a labour planning process and ensure your direct reports adhere to it to achieve labour efficiencies and operate within budget requirements
  • Manage the change process to implement the ERP process and coach and support the team to achieve ongoing utilisation, optimisation and maintenance to maximise efficiencies of the system
  • Oversee and implement optimal warehouse operational processes, policies and procedures to ensure efficient layout and space utilisation, stock control, replenishment and product flow
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested.

Qualifications

  • IOSH certified (essential)
  • NEBOSH Qualification preferred but not essential)
  • Degree or equivalent in supply chain (preferred)
