About Jacksons

Jacksons is part of William Jackson Food Group, a sixth-generation family business founded by William Jackson when he opened his first shop in Hull in September 1851. Today we have a portfolio of four food businesses in distinct, yet complimentary market areas, employing over 2,000 people.

We have occupied the current site in Hull since 1907 and we now have 3 bread plants in our main bakery. We recently developed a second bakery, also at our site in Hull, which specialises in premium quality roll production. We specialise in the supply of bread and other carriers to the sandwich manufacturers, foodservice and export channels, and in 2012 we launched our consumer facing brand “Jackson’s of Yorkshire”.

We opened a brand-new site in Corby, Northamptonshire – one of the largest investments our Group has ever made – and this will allow us to realise our ambition of being the best at what we do. 2025 is an exciting time to join us – make this year a toast to you and apply now!

What’s involved?

The Apprenticeship Coordinator will administer and oversee Jacksons apprenticeship academies, current and future apprenticeships and stakeholder liaison, ensuring a smooth execution from recruitment to completion (under the guidance and direction of the People Development Manager). The Apprenticeship Coordinator will work closely with apprentices, stakeholders, apprenticeship providers and industry bodies to create a seamless, equitable, and inclusive experience, ensuring all parties meet their obligations and the apprentices receive the required training and mentorship required to develop professionally.

There is an expectation for this role to travel between all Jacksons sites and specific apprenticeship providers, as and when required.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • On-site Coordination:

Act as the main point of contact for apprentices, offering guidance and support to maximise their learning and development (including required compliance training).

Work closely with on-site managers and mentors to ensure apprentices meet performance expectations and gain the skills necessary to succeed in their roles.

Address day-to-day issues that may arise, and assist apprentices in navigating challenges, conflicts, or concerns.

Coordinate the upskilling of both the apprentices and colleagues who require specific training to ensure compliance and skills are up to date and relevant.

  • Apprenticeship administration

Coordinate all aspects of Jacksons apprenticeship academies, from recruitment to completion.

Create a support and guidance programme that ensures a positive experience and successful completion of standards.

Develop and maintain partnerships with internal managers, stakeholders and apprentices.

Develop and promote inclusive apprenticeship practices that attract and retain a diverse range of candidates.

Ensure compliance with apprenticeship standards and guidelines as set by the HMRC.

  • Recruitment and Enrollment

Actively promote apprenticeship vacancies and Jacksons Academies across all recruitment channels, including job fairs and educational establishments.

Ensure recruitment practices include reaching out to underrepresented groups and all processes allow equal access to apprenticeship opportunities.

Serve as the primary point of contact for apprentices, offering guidance, support and advice throughout the apprenticeship.

Monitor apprentice recruitment progress, addressing issues as they arise and ensuring all apprentice requirements are met.

  • Stakeholder liaison

Work with Mangers/Function heads to ensure apprenticeships align with the departmental objectives.

Guide and support mentors, ensuring they are equipped to direct apprentices effectively (including the delivery of cultural competence and unconscious bias training).

Regularly communicate with stakeholders to track apprentice progress and resolve any issues that may arise.

  • Compliance and Reporting

Ensure all apprenticeships meet Jacksons, regulatory, EDI and industry requirements/standards.

Maintain accurate records of apprentice performance/progress and apprenticeship outcomes.

Prepare regular reports for internal and external stakeholders, as and when required (including diversity metrics).

  • Apprenticeship Development and Improvement

Collaborate with training providers and external stakeholders to ensure all internal procedures/processes are up to date and relevant.

Create training plans and schedules for all apprentices and colleagues who require compliance and upskilling in specific areas.

Develop individualised check-ins and performance goals with apprentices and their mentors.

Coordinate all training activities, schedules, and assessments to ensure apprentices meet program milestones and complete required learning objectives.

Gather feedback from apprentices, mentors and providers to continuously improve the apprenticeship experience.

Stay updated on industry trends and apprenticeship best practice to ensure apprenticeship competitiveness at Jacksons.
